Make sense of what feels stuck

Reduce the intensity of past experiences

Move forward with more ease and confidence

You’ve tried to move on, but something still feels stuck.

Certain experiences don’t stay in the past. They show up in your body, your thoughts, and your reactions, often when you least expect them. You might know you’re safe now, but your system doesn’t always get the message. And when there’s no space to process what’s still with you, the weight of it can build until it feels impossible to carry by yourself.

Do you feel:

EMDR therapy helps your brain process painful experiences so they no longer feel as overwhelming in the present.

How EMDR Therapy Can Support You

Our online EMDR therapy services support adults across Ontario who are navigating trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief, stress and burnout, phobias, performance anxiety, and life transitions. If past experiences keep shaping how you feel, respond, or see yourself, EMDR therapy can help you process them safely and effectively.

Experiences that once felt overwhelming can begin to feel more distant and manageable, while still recognizing what you’ve been through.

With less overwhelm and more awareness, you can begin to respond to challenges with clarity instead of reacting automatically.

Move from beliefs shaped by past experiences, like “I’m not safe” or “I’m not enough,” toward ones that feel more accurate and supportive.

EMDR therapy helps regulate your nervous system, so you feel less reactive, less on edge, and more grounded in your day-to-day life.

Feel more connected to what’s happening now, instead of being pulled back into what’s already happened.

As old patterns loosen, there’s more space for confidence, connection, and a sense of forward movement in your life.

Our Approach To EMDR Therapy

At Humanicity Psychotherapy, EMDR therapy gives your brain a safe, structured way to process experiences that still feel emotionally charged without needing to relive them. You will be guided carefully and collaboratively at a pace that feels manageable for your nervous system.

We focus on safety, collaboration, and trust from the start. You set the pace, and you stay in control throughout the process.

EMDR therapy follows 8 structured phases. Each one helps you feel prepared, supported, and in control as your brain begins to process what happened.

1. History Taking & Treatment Planning

We start by learning what's been affecting you, what you want help with, and what experiences may need attention in therapy.

2. Preparation

Before processing difficult memories, we build tools to help you feel calmer, safer, and steadier in and between sessions.

3. Assessment

Together, we identify a specific memory, belief, emotion, or body sensation that feels connected to what you're working through.

4. Desensitization

Using eye movements, tapping, or another gentle rhythmic technique, your brain begins to process the experience in a new way.

5. Installation

As the memory feels less intense, we help your brain connect with a belief that feels more true now, like "I'm safe," "I have choices," or "I can handle this."

6. Body Scan

We notice whether any tension, heaviness, or discomfort is still showing up in your body and continue supporting your system as it settles.

7. Closure

Every session ends with grounding, so you leave feeling as steady and supported as possible.

8. Re-evaluation

At the next session, we check in on how you're feeling, what shifted, and where to go next.

This process is structured, intentional, and always guided by what feels manageable for you.

ABOUT US

Why Work With Humanicity Psychotherapy

Because we help you make a connection with yourself that will change how you live.

Our emotions are the barometer of our well-being and when we experience loss, pain, or challenges, those feelings are signals that something needs attention. When you ignore those emotional signals, you break the trust connection between your mind and body. Expressing yourself rather than suppressing emotions is first step in rebuilding that connection and healing the most sacred bond you have with—yourself.

Humanicity Psychotherapy is a safe, healing space where your unique story is honoured. We provide trauma-informed care that is grounded in empathy, empowerment, and a deep understanding of how trauma affects the mind and body, ensuring your unique needs are respected and addressed with care and compassion.

We aim to help you rebuild what you have lost and rediscover your sense of self on your path to living unapologetically as you.

Humanicity Psychotherapy offers our clients:

Empowered Choice

Frequently Asked Questions About EMDR Therapy

EMDR therapy is designed to feel steady, structured, and supportive. We don’t jump straight into difficult memories. First, we build tools to help you feel grounded and in control, so you have a way to navigate whatever comes up. You’ll be guided throughout the process, and we always make sure you feel stable before each session ends.

If you’re unsure whether EMDR feels like the right fit, we’re happy to talk it through with you during a free consultation.

No. You don’t have to describe every detail of what happened. EMDR allows us to work with the memory without needing you to relive or explain it all out loud. Many people find this makes the process feel more manageable and less draining.

That’s completely okay. You don’t need a clear or complete memory for EMDR to work. Your brain and body can still hold onto the experience, even if parts of it feel unclear. You and your EMDR therapist in Ontario will work with what’s there, including emotions, reactions, or sensations, and help your system process it in a way that feels more settled.

During EMDR, you’ll briefly bring a memory to mind while focusing on something rhythmic, like eye movements or tapping. Many people notice that their memory starts to shift. It may feel less intense, less vivid, or bring up new perspectives. You stay present the whole time, and you’re always in control of the process.

No. EMDR doesn’t erase what happened. Instead, it changes how the memory feels. Most people find they can still remember the experience, but it no longer carries the same emotional weight or shows up in the same overwhelming way.

It depends on your history and what you’re hoping to work through. Some people notice shifts in a handful of sessions, particularly with more recent experiences. For deeper or long-standing patterns, like childhood trauma, anxiety, or depression, it can take more time. We move at a pace that feels right for you, with a focus on meaningful, lasting change.

Yes – research has shown that EMDR is effective in virtual settings. EMDR uses adapted techniques, like guided eye movements, tapping, or audio stimulation, that translate easily over video sessions. Many people find online sessions feel more comfortable, since they’re in their own space, which can help them feel more relaxed and open during the process.

EMDR therapy can support a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, PTSD, grief, stress, phobias, performance anxiety, childhood trauma, and life transitions. It’s particularly helpful when past experiences continue to shape how you feel, think, or respond in your day-to-day life.

In many cases, yes. EMDR therapy is often covered under extended health benefits when provided by a registered psychotherapist, psychologist, or social worker. While insurance plans don’t usually list “EMDR” specifically, sessions are often covered under your psychotherapy or mental health benefits. Coverage can vary depending on your plan, so it’s worth checking directly with your provider.

It’s common to notice some emotional or physical shifts between EMDR sessions. You might feel more tired, have memories surface, or feel a bit more emotional for a short time. This is part of your brain processing what it’s been holding. These effects are usually temporary, and we make sure you have tools and support in place so you feel grounded and cared for throughout.
